The Artist
I have worked as a freelance designer for many years, but have always been a painter at heart. The infiltration of cars into my work began in 1987 and I first exhibited motoring artwork at an Ulster Automobile Club event in 1989. I have completed numerous commissions for classic and vintage car enthusiasts and my own enthusiasm for the theme has been growing ever since. My most recent series of paintings are of the Dundrod TT races of the 1950s.
I began a collection of paintings of the legendary Ards Tourist Trophy races in 2003 and the resulting exhibition was marked by the launch of my book "Campari and Soda Bread", containing all my Ards TT images. I am hoping to further develop my interest in illustrating and publishing books on aspects of transport history.
In 2004, I was invited by the Royal Irish Automobile Club Archive to focus on the Irish Grand Prix race series of 1929 to 1931. The resulting exhibition in Dublin's Phoenix Park was a sell-out success. These paintings caught the imagination of the Office of the Public Works, who purchased and commissioned a collection of my pictures, as a permanent celebration of the races for the Irish State.
There are also examples of my work in the permanent collections of the National Museums of Northern Ireland, Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.
In 2006 year I took part in "the Art of Motoring" exhibition at the Gascoigne Gallery in Harrogate. I have also exhibited in group exhibitions at The Alex Reade Motorsport Gallery, Goodwood Festival of Speed, Donington Park and The British Museum of Road Transport. My paintings hang in the homes of collectors in Ireland, UK, Europe, Canada, USA and New Zealand.
I am an Associate Member of both the Guild of Motoring Artists and the Guild of Railway Artists.
